The idea of a clothing brand had been floating around my head for many years, but without any experience in fashion design or not even having any retail knowledge, that lack of self belief always held me back. Until...

After a long engineering career I had the opportunity of starting a property and property management business, only small but it had potential. Then COVID happened! Covid brought all these wonderful restrictions which in turn meant that my work was becoming less and less, and because I had only just started, I was not eligible for any financial support from the government or council.

As I sat in The Reef, my little surf shack, I pondered on the actual possibility of me starting a brand, a premium brand, one that could one day be seen all around the world. But realistically, was it just a dream or could I pull it off? Ideas, designs and everything I'd need to do swirled around my head so fast...... So I got drunk.

There in my drunken stupor I gazed at Voodoo Bob, as gift from the Turtle Sanctuary in Boa Vista, Cape Verde. THAT'S IT! I'll call it Voodoo Bob. The realisation that it wasn't a cool name for a cool brand, and that I could come up with a cool logo for it either, that name was short lived..... I drank more.

My mind kept drawing back to Voodoo Bob, the Turtle Sanctuary and my love of turtles. Hang on, Voodoo Turtle? As soon as it rolled of my tongue it had a ring to it, it had that something, and then I remembered my turtle tattoo I designed back in my youth that I had on my back. Everything all of a sudden fell into place, I had the name, the logo, and so Voodoo Turtle was born. Just goes to show that some good things do come from drinking.
